Rise in poll complaints troubles Iraq vote monitors

On the deadline for filing complaints, the number of alleged violations which could swing results in the 275-seat parliament was "well into double figures", an accredited international election observer, who wished to remain anonymous, said.

In January there were only five of these "red" complaints, the observer added. Red complaints are alleged breaches serious enough to potentially hand a seat to a party or election bloc unfairly.

At the Sharqia high school in central Baghdad, which was used as a polling station, a senior election official was said to have asked voters if they were going to vote for 555. Unless they said yes, they were not given ballot papers.

A source close to Mr Allawi's campaign said that in one Baghdad polling station "around 600 men, some with walkie-talkies and purple ink on their fingers showing they had already voted, forced their way in. When the manager tried to stop them asking for ballot papers, they threatened to put him in a car boot and drive him away ... He let them in."

He declined to be identified, citing the fact that an Allawi candidate and five campaign workers were murdered before the poll. All complaints have to be signed by a witness, which created risks, he said.

Mike Lester is a hack

I've been wanting to do this post for months. Mike Lester has got to be one of the worst editorial cartoonists in the country. His cartoons are always hacky and he's not even a good artist. Chuck Asay is occasionally hacky but I respect him as a talented artist artist. As for Mike Lester, the hole in the face for a mouth and squigly lines for hair amounts to the ability and technique you'd expect from a second grader.

As I've already stated, it took me a while to finally do this post. Almost all his cartoons are hacky, but this particular one was just so over the top asinine that I had to comment on it.

What is Lester trying to say with this cartoon? He's stating that it's better to pick a friend for a position of power that will effect 300 million American lives for multiple decades. Though he's not just saying the best person for the job is a friend, his cartoon basically ridicules anyone who disagrees with him. Picking a complete stranger? What a ridiculous idea! Idiot.

I have a cousin who's pretty good at soccer, best player I know. Though if I was in charge of creating the U.S. national soccer team I wouldn't pick him, I'd pick strangers. Loyalty does not make up for lack of experience, that was made very clear with Brownie's miserable failings. At the very least her relationship to the president should be a non factor, but to assert that it's a qualification is absurd.

Fifty-seven percent of those polled said it was not worth going to war compared to 41 percent who thought it was. In a February poll, 48 percent said the war was worth it and half said it was not.[...]

So the Florida courts have decided that Jeb Bush can't force a pregnant thirteen-year-old girl to carry the child to term. Note that, under Florida law, thirteen is well below the age of consent, making her legally the victim of rape.

The Governor's insistence that rapists receive the full reproductive advantage of their crimes isn't limited to statutory rape. Last year, Jeb asked the courts to appoint a guardian for the fetus of a developmentally-disabled woman (with an estimated mental age of 1 year) who had been raped in a group home.

So if Jeb runs for president I guess he'll base his run on his support in the brain-dead vegetable and rapist communities.

The First Lady may have stolen the show with her surprise comedy routine at the 91st White House Correspondents' Association Dinner, but not everyone appreciated her jokes and one-liners poking fun at President Bush. At least one organization of conservative Christians quickly lashed out at Mrs. Bush's performance, warning that her remarks at the President's expense were a public refutation of the Biblical command that wives should respect their husbands.

According to an official statement released over the weekend by the Coalition for Traditional Values, an organization that seeks a more flexible relationship between church and state, Mrs. Bush's jokes at her husband's expense amounted to a public emasculation of the President. Pastor Roy DeLong, the statement's author and chair of the group, warns that the First Lady's performance comes at a time when the Mr. Bush's "manliness is already under attack."

"As a believer, President Bush is no doubt familiar with the passage from Ephesians that says 'Wives, submit yourselves unto your husbands, as unto the Lord,'" says Mr. DeLong. "That means that just as Christ is the head of the church, the husband is the head of the wife. That is not the

Emphasis mine. I found the last bit particularly amusing, the author of the blog then links to his own article on how gay hybrids are. Though as for the rest of the article, the point needs to be made to more moderates that when they vote for Republicans, it's these lunatics the Republicans are representing. We've seen it when they bash gays. We've seen it when they politicize a dead woman passing away. We've seen attempt to eliminate the 200 year old filibuster to appease the "Democrats hate Jesus" crowd. They hate gays, they want women to be submissive, they want science taken out of schools, they want to eliminate the seperation between church and state. They really are the American Taliban, and Republicans will do anything to appease them.

First off, if I was a teacher I would send that little smart ass to the corner too.

Though aside from the poor concept, he's obviously trying to make a political point. For those of you who don't know intelligent design is what the religiously insane want taught in schools. It basically says that children should not be taught science in school because science is so complicated that it doesn't exist. So schools have the option of teaching "the Earth goes around the sun" or "the Earth goes wherever the magic man wants". Most schools choose to teach science. That's where Stayskal gets his idea for his cartoon. His cartoon basically says 150 years of science reaserarch and fossil records are all lies and have no place in the school. He uses no evidence to to back up this claim. So, as I said in the title, Wayne Stayskal is a hack.

WASHINGTON - (KRT) - Under pressure from Congress, the Bush administration reversed gears Wednesday and released a report showing an upsurge in terrorist attacks worldwide in 2004 after first withholding the statistics from the public.

The number of "significant attacks" grew to about 651 last year, from 208 in 2003, according to statistics released by the National Counterterrorism Center. The 2004 total includes 201 attacks in Iraq.

The Bush Administration punishes some Democrat backers

The Inter-American Telecommunication Commission meets three times a year in various cities across the Americas to discuss such dry but important issues as telecommunications standards and spectrum regulations. But for this week's meeting in Guatemala City, politics has barged onto the agenda. At least four of the two dozen or so U.S. delegates selected for the meeting, sources tell TIME, have been bumped by the White House because they supported John Kerry's 2004 campaign.

The State Department has traditionally put together a list of industry representatives for these meetings, and anyone in the U.S. telecom industry who had the requisite expertise and wanted to go was generally given a slot, say past participants. Only after the start of Bush's second term did a political litmus test emerge, industry sources say.

T he White House admits as much: "We wanted people who would represent the Administration positively, and--call us nutty--it seemed like those who wanted to kick this Administration out of town last November would have some difficulty doing that," says White House spokesman Trent Duffy. Those barred from the trip include employees of Qualcomm and Nokia, two of the largest telecom firms operating in the U.S., as well as Ibiquity, a digital-radio-technology company in Columbia, Md. One nixed participant, who has been to many of these telecom meetings and who wants to remain anonymous, gave just $250 to the Democratic Party. Says Nokia vice president Bill Plummer: "We do not view sending experts to international meetings on telecom issues to be a partisan matter. We would welcome clarification from the White House."

Holy crap, they've totally lost it. They're totally drunk with power, and very possibly, just out of their mind paranoid. It's one thing to help out supporters, but punishing anyone who contributed the least bit to your political opponents? What is this? North Korea? Their excuse is total bull too. What do they think is going to happen? I hate to see cartoons like this because Chuck Asay is one of the better editorial cartoonists. Though he's obviously a Republican, he's a good artist, and rarely resorts to the obvious garbage other cartoonists pull (example: Look! It's Clinton's Lie-brary! HAHAHAHA!).

That's why I hate to see him whore himself out in favor of every invented crisis the Republicans pull out of their ass. The cartoon above is a perfect example of him drawing an asinine piece of garbage to support the Republicans invented crisis. In this case, it's getting every insane activist judge on to the bench, instead of just 95 percent of them. First off, I'd give Johnny an F for such a stupid response. Next, if most American voters actually took a civics class, then they would know about the filibuster. Then when they voted for their senator, they were assuming they'd send that senator into a legislative body with a filibuster. The only way the Democrats wouldn't have the consent of the governed to filibuster 1 out of every 20 judges nominated is if the American people are so stupid (as Chuck Asay thinks they are) that they had no idea senators could filibuster a judicial nominee, and were some how tricked when they went to the polls.

I been busy recently and I may be updating this Blog less. For about 40 days I felt obligated to basically update this site every day, the updates may come less frequently now, just whenever I fell like it. It'll probably be closer to updates 3 or 4 updates a week as opposed to 3 or 4 times a month. Also, expect more cartoons, because I like cartoons, and this is my blog, so I'll post cartoons.

I'm rarely shocked by the Republicans and their willingness to act against the intrests of their constituents.But I truly am a little shocked that the day after I post about the Bush administration putting politics above the security of the American people. The Bush administration is, again, putting politics above the security of the American people.

HSD Omits Right-Wing Threats

A recent internal Homeland Security document lists the Animal Liberation Front and the Earth Liberation Front with a few Islamic groups that could potentially support al-Qaida as domestic terror threats.

The document does not address threats posed by white supremacists, violent militiamen, anti-abortion bombers and other extremists

So the Bush Administration is concerned about terrorists who spray paint SUVs and free chickens. But not terrorists who kill doctors and minorities.

A New Pope

Call me anti-religious, please, because I am. I hate organized religion and am no fan of the Catholic church. Though that's not the reason I don't like the new pope. Here are the reasons:

1. His name is Benedict XVI. Who's named Benedict? How many Benedict's do you know? Other then Benedict Arnold, and he doesn't exactly have a very good reputation.

2. I just plain don't like Nazis.

3. He's a political hack who intervenes on the side of the pro-war, pro-death penalty candidate.

Well that's it, being a Nazi and such may be trivial reasons to not like a pope, but it's not like he's going to be pope for very long, considering he's near 80, I don't think it really matters all that much.

Oh, one more thing, he strongly opposes homosexuality, birth control, abortion, female ordination and marriage for priests. He has described other faiths as "deficient".

Like I said, I don't like him, not that it really matters. I don't care the least bit what the Catholic Church says.

So the Bush administration is putting politics and their image above the national security of the American people. It's really sad how many idiots got duped into thinking these hacks would put anything anything above partisan politics.

It's amazing they get conned into voting for these Republicans who are on the wrong issue of virtually every political issue.

This comic is in our campus newspaper and has been pissing me off for a while. My problem isn't that it's conservative, I have no problem with a comic balancing out Boondocks. But Boondocks has multiple well drawn characters with different personalities in different scenery. Mallard Fillmore is just a poorly drawn duck head giving the author's political opinions.

The above comic is typical of Mallard Fillmore. No real jokes, just partisan hackery. I don't know where to begin with what's wrong with the above comic. Citing some advocacy group as the central theme of your comic. The term "typical American family". The sheer ignorance of stating that the purpose of the Democratic party is to raise all American's taxes. The fact that Republicans are the ones strapping every child with a "birth tax" as a result of the massive debt they're racking up now.

For comparisons sake, here's today's Boondocks:

This is a pretty typical Boondocks cartoon. Two characters with two different personalities. There's actually a joke in it. As for the artistic aspect, there's grass, trees, pants, coats, sweatshirts, and two full characters walking all in color. Mallard Fillmore on the other hand, as I said, is just a black and white very simply drawn duck head. Today's comic also happens to have about 3 1/4 human heads.

That the media won't report on what "these data say" that women earn as much as men. That seems like a pretty amazing story, for decades women have earned less. So what data is he citing? A conservative writers op-ed from over a month ago. So basically he's angry because Brian Williams isn't planning on opening the show tonight discussing what names Ann Coulter called liberals a month ago. It's bad enough that he couldn't cite any study to promote his world view, but the op-ed piece he cited didn't even discuss men vrs. women's income.

1000 or so people got together downtown East Lansing after MSU's loss in the Final Four. They were chanting "Go Green, Go White" and "F--k UNC". Very peaceful, nothing the least bit violent, then out of nowhere the cops toss multiple canisters of tear gas in and around the crowd. So here's my question: If getting tear gassed for assembling isn't a violation of the first amendment, why are a couple reasonable gun control laws a violation of the 2nd amendment? RIP. Mitch Hedberg was by far my favorite stand up comedian who hadn't made it big in movies or tv, and probably tied with Robin Williams and Chris Rock for my overall favorite comic. I first heard his comedy on Comedy Central's "Shorties Watching Shorties". That piece always cracked me up, and I had been dying to know that comic's name. Jan. 1 2005 I found out his name from some of my cousins, and started listening to his stuff. I would still be cracking up the 5th or 6th time I listened to his routines. As recently as last Saturday we were listening to Mitch Hedberg and talking about him at my cousins party. He was 37.

Four% of Iraqis under age 5 went hungry in the months after Saddam's ouster in April 2003, and the rate nearly doubled to 7.7% last year, said Jean Ziegler, the U.N. Human Rights Commission's special expert on the right to food.

Overall, more than a quarter of Iraqi children don't get enough to eat, Ziegler told the 53-nation commission, the top U.N. human rights watchdog.

Too bad those children can feel pain, if they didn't I'm sure congress and Bush would move heaven and earth to feed them.

I don't like Terri Schiavo's parents. At first I thought they just didn't want to accept reality, though after hearing that ridiculous recording, and the article below, I think they are either insane, or just plain liars.

Earlier, Pinellas Circuit Judge George Greer rejected the family's latest motion. The family claimed Schiavo tried to say "I want to live" hours before her tube was removed, saying "AHHHHH" and "WAAAAAAA" when asked to repeat the phrase.

Doctors have said her previous utterances weren't speech, but were involuntary moans consistent with someone in a vegetative state. Greer agreed.

It's sad all these people are threatening Michael Schiavo and threatening him for doing what he thinks is right and going against the wishes of her parents who are insane and/or liars.

When it's not Schiavo it will be Michael Jackson, or Martha Stewart. If you look below I watched Inside Politics the other day. The words "Iraq" and "war" were not mentioned once. The media's a joke, I don't see why conservatives hate CNN so much. CNN does their best to whore themselves out to every car chase, celebrity scandal, or anything that will get ratings. CNN doesn't care about Iraq, the deficit, cutting social programs. They only care about ratings. Then again, conservatives hated Bill Clinton with a passion for decreasing the size of government and balancing the budget, but love Dubya for creating the largest deficit in history and greatly increasing the size of government.

Interesting point. Comparisons like that can't be said enough. I'm suprosed it's not being mentioned much in relation to this school shooting. Though thinking about it, I didn't hear much about this shooting at all. There were a couple articles on it the day it happened. Then there were some follow up articles on the kid, and that was it. First let me say I have nothing against protesting when people are fighting for political change, or workers rights, but this is just ridiculous. First off, the pictures above are people protesting allowing a dead woman to die, and the trial of a man who, at best, has seious mental problems. Next, they're doing it on weekday afternoons. Don't these people have jobs? families? school? Anything to occupy their time other then protesting something a large majority of the nation doesn't care about? I'm just sitting here bored, watching CNN, for the first time in months. Here some thoughts:

Pat Robertson is a hack. He says he's for state rights and keeping the federal government out of state issues. Then he starts bashing the federal courts for not overturning the state court's decision. He also spoke about how great George Bush, Jeb Bush and the Republican congress are, it's just those evil "activist" courts that are murdering a dead woman.

Pat Robertson asking what comes next after Schiavo? Murdering people because they're in a wheel chair? What a ass.

17 minutes into Inside Politics, they've talked about nothing but Schiavo.

76% of conservatives say government should stay out of Schiavo case. Haha.

Document: Bin Laden Evaded U.S. Forces

The document, provided to The Associated Press in response to a Freedom of Information request, says the unidentified detainee "assisted in the escape of Osama bin Laden from Tora Bora." It is the first definitive statement from the Pentagon that bin Laden was at Tora Bora and evaded U.S. pursuers.

The events at Tora Bora were a point of contention during last year's presidential race, and Bush as well as Vice President Dick Cheney asserted that commanders did not know whether bin Laden was there when U.S. and allied Afghan forces attacked the area in December 2001.

Sen. John Kerry, the Democratic presidential nominee, lambasted Bush during the campaign for having missed a chance to capture or kill bin Laden at Tora Bora, a mountainous area along the Pakistan border that became al-Qaida's last stand in Afghanistan.

Again, Bush lied about Kerry. Kerry told the truth, Bush called him a liar for it. Kerry told the truth about Bush and Bin Laden, as he did with social security. From fake news, to fake reporters, to propaganda, to out and out lies. This administration has no shame, and no integrity whatsoever.

New EPA mercury rule omits conflicting data

When the Environmental Protection Agency unveiled a rule last week to limit mercury emissions from U.S. power plants, officials emphasized that the controls could not be more aggressive because the cost to industry already far exceeded the public health payoff.

What they did not reveal is that a Harvard University study paid for by the EPA, co-authored by an EPA scientist and peer-reviewed by two other EPA scientists had reached the opposite conclusion.

That analysis estimated health benefits 100 times as great as the EPA did, but top agency officials ordered the finding stripped from public documents, said a staff member who helped develop the rule. Acknowledging the Harvard study would have forced the agency to consider more stringent controls, said environmentalists and the study's author.

Why does Mr. Schiavo have children with another woman? Because after years of hoping for the best he realized the obvious. The the woman he fell in love with and married is dead. The world needs Terri Shiavo? You had no clue who she was a month ago! You read an article a week ago and came out to waste your time protesting against killing a person who's already dead. This case has been going on for 7 years, family, friends, doctors have all been testifying for at numerous court hearings, and next to no one knew about it. But now all of a sudden since the media has picked up on this story the world all of a sudden needs Terri Schiavo?

March 19 - Although President George W. Bush has been traveling the country touting a new plan to overhaul the Social Security system, campaigning in 15 states over six weeks, the majority of Americans remain unswayed, according to the latest NEWSWEEK poll. Only one-third of all Americans (33 percent) approve of his proposal to create investment accounts under Social Security, the poll found, while 59 percent disapprove. More Americans (44 percent) trust Congressional Democrats with managing the 70-year-old program. The poll also found that, with the exception of his handling of terrorism and homeland security, his approval numbers are down across the board.
Support for the Social Security plan breaks down reliably along party lines, with 72 percent of registered Republicans saying they support the Bush plan; marginally more Democrats (76 percent) side with Congressional Dems on the issue. Political Independents also give Congressional Democrats the edge (40 percent, versus 28 percent for Bush).

The week he won re-election in November, President Bush declared: "I earned capital in the campaign, political capital, and now I intend to spend it." And spend it is what he appears to have done: the president’s overall approval rating has slipped below the 50 percent mark, his lowest score since being sworn in again in January. Forty-five percent of all Americans approve of the way he is doing his job, a five-point dip from early February; 48 percent disapprove, up six points. Bush's approval numbers have fallen the most among the demographic at whom his Social Security overhaul is targeted at: just 43 percent of 18-29 year olds approve of his performance (down from 56 percent a month ago).

Ouch, that's gotta hurt. Must be why he's signing bills to interfere with people's personal lives.

Republican governors in a few spots across the country are angering state employees by removing one of organized labor's strongest tools the right to collective bargaining.

Governors in three states who've taken the step say it's about making government more efficient or being fair to non-union workers. Critics say it's political payback for labor's traditional support of Democrats and part of a wider shift to undermine workers in favor of big business.

The title is a question because I have no real education or experience analyzing photographs, and I know nothing about Phil McCarten.

The picture makes it look like there are only 48 boots, which represent our soldiers killed in Iraq. The picture goes out of its way to show there are no more rows to the bottom, left, or top, but on the right where there are most likely hundreds more rows it's cut off close to the last row of boots.

There were a couple stories I wanted to comment on, but never got around to it. So here's some thoughts on some recent events. I'll try not to ramble too much.

Torture, it's bad. What does it say about the occupation when the "liberators" are torturing people to death?

What the hell is wrong with the Republican congress? The Republicans that took over the house as the party of reform has become a corrupt incompetent group of clowns wasting time and taxpayer money on crap they have no business getting involved in.

What the hell is wrong with the Republican congress? Again, they're wasting time and taxpayer money on crap they have no business getting involved in. The Republicans have become a group of big government attention whores who will abandon all values, invade peoples personal lives, or do whatever it takes to score a political point.

What the hell is wrong with the senate Democrats? Yes I know if the Democrats were in charge this bile wouldn't come to a vote, and even if it did it would not have been as much of an atrocity as it is. Though that's no excuse for voting for a horrible bill that has no constituency and is hated by the people on both sides of the political spectrum just because you know it will pass anyway. If Democrats choose to fight the Republicans on anything, this should have been it. This bill hurts the people, and could have been a winning issue if they had fought it. Instead half the Democrats voted for it.

This is sad
The Republicans are willing to destroy the Arctic National Wildlife Refugee for the possibility of oil 10 years from now. If we didn't have an administration of oil men we might actually be able to get off the crap in 10 years. Instead were we're going to destroy this...

In his budget, President Bush (news - web sites) has proposed charging certain veterans a $250 annual registration fee and raising from $7 to $15 the copayment those veterans pay for a 30-day supply of prescription drugs. The budget also would cut $293.5 million by limiting the veterans whose care in state-operated veterans homes is reimbursed by the federal government.

Kerry Accuses Bush of Planning 'January Surprise' That Would Privatize Social Security

WASHINGTON Oct 17, 2004 Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry accused President Bush on Sunday of planning a surprise second-term effort to privatize Social Security and forecast a "disaster for America's middle class."

Republicans denied the charge as scare tactics with little more than two weeks remaining in a tight election. "It is just flat inaccurate," said GOP chairman Ed Gillespie.
Kerry talked about Social Security from the pulpit of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Columbus, Ohio, citing a report in The New York Times Magazine that quoted Bush as telling supporters that "privatizing Social Security" would be high on his second-term agenda.

He called it Bush's "January surprise," and said it may be good for "the wealthiest people and the well connected in America, but it's a disaster for America's middle class."

With Bush taking a campaign day off, his surrogates leapt to his defense.

Gillespie said the account of Bush's remarks was a "second-hand report and it is just flat inaccurate." Appearing on CNN's "Late Edition," he also said it was based on "hearsay." Gillespie said he often attends events such as the one cited, but added he couldn't be certain whether he had been at the one featured in the story.

Bush's campaign spokesman was more blunt,

"John Kerry's misleading senior scare tactics are just another example of a candidate who will say anything to get elected," said spokesman Steve Schmidt, "no matter how false his accusations or how contradictory they are with his record of repeatedly voting for higher taxes on Social Security."

I wonder what it must be like to have no shame at all. The Bush Administration knew they were going to try to privatize social security, Kerry told the truth, and they smeared him for it. I wonder how voters in Kansas, Ohio, Tennessee feel knowing they voted for an administration that has no moral issue with blatantly lying to score a political point? O what's that? Apparently it doesn't matter, as long as the administration hates gays.

Supporting Troops Via Bumper Magnets

SHAWNEE, Kan. - Sandra Wetmore, lover of country and supporter of troops, wanted a simple way to show her allegiances. So, like many other Americans, she put them on her bumper, sticking on a yellow, ribbon-shaped magnet that pleads "Support Our Troops" and others promising "United We Stand" and "God Answers Prayers." These magnetic ribbons have become fixtures on highways across the country, a symbol of people looking for ways to show support of the men and women overseas, or of issues such as breast cancer research and autism awareness.

"It's very positive," said Wetmore, 59, of Kansas City, Kan.

"I think it's immediate, I think it's cheap and I think it's something that you can say 'Well, I'm doing something,'" said Wichita State University sociologist Ron Matson

No your not, your not doing anything. If you were raising money to buy our troops armor, you'd be doing something. If you were volunteering at a veterans hospital, you'd be doing something. If you were donating to the international red cross, you'd be doing something. If you bought a car that gets 60 miles to the gallon, you'd be doing something. If you were staying well-informed of the situation in Iraq and writing newspapers and elected officials about it, you'd be doing something. What your doing is giving a couple dollars to some company who makes cheap magnets in china and sells them in gas stations looking to make a quick buck off of people looking for the easiest, cheapest way possible to "support our troops".

I'll go with both after hearing that U.S. misses soldier reimbursement deadline

WASHINGTON (AP) The Defense Department hasn't developed a plan to reimburse soldiers for equipment they've bought to fight in Iraq and Afghanistan despite requirements in a law passed last year, a senator says.

In a letter sent Wednesday to Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, Sen. Christopher J. Dodd, D-Conn., asked details on the Pentagon's progress setting up the reimbursement program and questioned why it was not in place yet.

"Very simply, this is either negligence on their part, because they were not happy with this when it passed, or it's incompetence," Dodd said. "It's pretty outrageous when you have all their rhetoric about how much we care about our people in uniform."

[...]Soldiers serving in Iraq and their families have reported buying everything from higher-quality protective gear to armor for their Humvees, medical supplies and even global positioning devices.

In response to the complaints, Congress last year passed Dodd's amendment requiring the Pentagon to reimburse members of the Armed Services for the cost of any safety or health equipment that they bought or someone else bought on their behalf.

What is it with Republicans and their hatred for our fighting men and women? Why do they refuse to support our troops? U.S. Soldiers are being killed every day in Iraq, they have had their tours extended repeatedly, there is no exit strategy in sight, and our soldiers have to buy their own armor. Now the pentagon can't take the time write em a check for the armor that they should have had from the beginning? I guess that's what you get when you elect a man who thinks photo-ops with fake turkeys is more important then protecting soldiers and feeding their families.

I was hesitant at first to post this at first. I've been trying this make this a blog full of original commentary and posts as opposed to just links to what a bunch of other bloggers are saying. Then I remembered my pledge a week ago to be rid of standards, and post whatever. So here's a portion of Kos's post at DailyKos:

Once upon a time, it was easy for the American Right to smear its opponents on the left -- they could simply equate them with the nation's communist enemies. It didn't matter that the American "left" (Democrats) had more in common with the Right than international communism, the smear was useful.
Now, however, our international enemy -- Islamic radicalism -- is actually the polar opposite of what liberals stand for -- their actions on women rights are deplorable, they insist on theocracy, they loooveee torture and the death penalty, they demand to control the culture (TV, movies, music), they rail against rampant sexuality, they seek to spread their ideology via force, and they have a well-defined black-and-white sense of truth.

Remind you of a certain American party?

That's why hysterical assertions by the wingers that liberals hate America and want the terrorists to win are so absurd. As absurd as it would've been to claim that Reagan wanted the Communists to win the Cold War. The Taliban/Al Qaida/Hezbollah/Jihadists of the world are the exact embodiment of evil in the liberal mind. They are everything we are against, and against everything we are for.

In fact, they are exactly what we see in the Republican Party as the GOP continues to consolidate power -- creeping theocracy, moralizing, us versus them, embrace of torture, the need to constantly declare jihad on someone, hysterics over football-game nipples, control over "decency" on the airwaves, lyrics censorship, hostility to women freedoms, curtaling of civil liberties, and so on.

This is an excellent point that needs to be brought up more. Especially when you hear right-wingers accuse us of hating America, or call us "communists". Bring up the fact that the American right is moving closer and closer to the politics of the "Islamic fascists", while Liberals are the polar opposite, and hate their politics.

So I wake up to this... Iraq Soldiers May Be Among 41 Bodies Found

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Iraqi officials said Wednesday that 41 bodies some bullet-riddled, others beheaded have been found at two sites, and they believe some of the corpses are Iraqi soldiers kidnapped and killed by insurgents. At least 30 American contractors, meanwhile, were wounded by a suicide bombing near a hotel.

In another attack, interim Planning Minister Mahdi al-Hafidh escaped assassination after gunmen opened fire on his convoy in Baghdad. One of his guards was killed and two others were wounded, police said.

A U.S. soldier was killed and another was injured Wednesday when a roadside bomb detonated as they were patrolling in the capital, the military said.

Authorities found 26 of the corpses late Tuesday in a field near Rumana, a village about 12 miles east of the western city of Qaim, near the Syrian border, police Capt. Muzahim al-Karbouli and other officials said.

Each of the bodies had been riddled with bullets apparently several days earlier. They were found wearing civilian clothes and one of the dead was a woman, al-Karbouli said.

South of Baghdad in Latifiya, Iraqi troops on Tuesday found 15 headless bodies in a building inside an abandoned former army base, Defense Ministry Capt. Sabah Yassin said. The bodies included 10 men, three women and two children. Their identities, like the others found in western Iraq, were not known.

Is any of this a suprise? No. Normally I wouldn't even bother bringing any attention to articles like this. If I posted all the articles I read discussing everything that's going wrong in Iraq, there would be 100+ articles a month, and this blog would become very boring very fast. The reason I'm bringing attention to one of these "another 100 dead in Iraq" stories is because of what's been in the news recently.

Jon Stewart on the Daily Show has been telling his audience he's starting to believe Bush was right all along. After 2 years of occupation, 2 years of ignoring Al Queda, 1500+ U.S. soldiers dead, 100,000s of Iraqi civilians dead, and 200 billion dollars they had a day where only 50 people died when every major city is under martial law. The Iraqis get 40 percent turnout where they give a majority to a party that wants an Iranian style theocracy, and Bush goes from moron to genius. Did I miss something? We didn't find WMDs, Saddam was never a threat to anyone, there were no links to Al Queda, every reason Bush gave for going to war has been proven a lie. Bush didn't announce fall 2002 that we were going to occupy a country for up to a decade so we could force a single country to have a government similar to ours.

Then there's the claim that Bush killing 100,000+ civilians in Iraq has started a domino effect of democracy across the middle east. On "liberal" ABC last night they said kids years from now could be learning in class about the great George W. Bush who single handedly democratized the middle east. That's right children, cheat on that test, because the ends justifies the means. Even if the ends result in a F because you were copying off of little Dick who full of crap, doesn't study, and is, in fact, evil. Wait, what was I talking about? OK, back to the rant, cartoonists (and 24 hour news hacks) are saying crap like this:

I don't know where to begin with everything that's wrong with this cartoon. First off what's Bush's "democracy fertilizer"? Bombs, killing, and long occupation of two countries?

Next, Ukraine? WTF did Bush do to create Democracy in Ukraine? The opposition candidate was poisoned, became a man of the people, he lost the election, people protested in huge numbers over the suspected fraud in the election, the world took notice, they held another election, the opposition candidate won. Where was Bush in that? Bush didn't even mention Ukraine until it became a world wide news story.

Next, Egypt. They said they'll hold an election and allow opposition. There's a big difference between a free and fair election in a democracy and just holding an election. Iraq held an election under Saddam where he got 99.5% of the vote. I'll believe the hype when I see the elections.

Next, Syria. Ummmm, did I miss something? Nothing's changed in Syria.

Next Lebanon. It took the assassination of the prime minister for several thousand people in Lebanon to protest the Syrian occupation. Bush had nothing to do with this.

Next, Palestine. They held elections because Arafat is dead. Arafat was a key obstacle to middle east peace. Unless Bush killed Arafat, Bush is had nothing to do with this. If Arafat had died during the Clinton administration, the Palestinians would have a state by now. Arafat rejected every plan Clinton brought forth.

Last, Afghanistan. Outside of the major cities the country is controlled by Taliban and Al Queda war lords.

As for Iraq, as I already stated above, 40 percent turnout electing a party that wants Iraq's constitution to be based on Islamic law.

Blogs For Bush, Exploiting 9/11, and Porno

So I was wasting time going through different sites when I found the following ad on a site called "Blogs for Bush"

The September 11th on the ad is flashing. The way they ad exclamation points in their advertisment and use smiling models for their terrible product made me want to throw up.

First off, how desperate for money are you that you would allow an ad like that on your site? Do the people who advertise for this site have any integrity at all?

They say a portion of their profits (which we all know means .000001%) goes to "The Kitchen Table Gang" which according to California's AG is not a charitable organization in California (where they're located).

The site itself 911shirts.net according to WhoIs was registered by BottleRocket Media. A google search for "BottleRocket Media" comes up with 80 results, all of the porno.

The guy behind the site was using the account name "erock72" to discuss and defend his site on fark.com. A google search for "erock72" comes up with 128 results, a majority of them were his registration account at porno sites.

So it seems Blogs For Bush is accepting ads from people trying to make some money exploiting a national tradgedy, which will then go to the porn industry.
